Preventive dentistry

  • Dental exams

For every new patient, a dental exam is completed. This is the measurement of the depth of the pockets around the tooth. Based on these measurements and by viewing the bitewing radiographs, it can be determined if Disease is present. If Disease is present, then some sort of Therapy (deep cleaning) will be needed to improve this condition. Most times with Disease there is calculus or tartar present under the gums that is causing the gum inflammation and disease. Regular visits to the Dentist are very important, so that if you do have disease, it can be caught early and treated.
  • Teeth cleanings

Professional Dental Cleanings (Dental Prophylaxis) are performed by Registered Dental Hygienists. The hygienist will clean your teeth, and usually the Dental Exam will follow the cleaning. During your cleaning, the hygienist will do the following: Removal of tartar (calculus): Calculus is plaque that was left on the tooth for a long period of time and has now hardened. While most calculus can form above the gum, some can form below the gums and special dental instruments most be used to remove this calculus. If this calculus is left on the teeth, bone loss can develop and this is how some people lose their teeth!Removal of plaque: Plaque is the sticky film that forms on teeth if they aren’t properly cleaned. Plaque is a growing colony of living bacteria, food debris, and saliva. These bacteria can produce toxins that in turn, can inflame the gums. The inflammation is the start of Periodontal Disease Teeth Polishing: Done at the end of a cleaning, this polishing can remove fine stains
  • Tooth Filling (Fillings )

Dr. Stuart Curry, conveniently located in the Vestavia Hills/Cahaba Heights/Inverness area off Highway 280, uses composite or tooth colored fillings almost exclusively for his restoration material. When you need a small filling but don’t want ugly metal in your teeth, our direct composite resin or tooth colored fillings are the way to go. Their most obvious advantage is beauty—a well-done composite filling can be indistinguishable from the natural tooth. They have many advantages. Composite fillings can change the appearance of teeth, strengthen teeth, and more conservatively treat teeth – all things that metal fillings cannot do. Our tooth colored fillings are directly bonded to tooth structure – this means that they actually integrate with the tooth, thereby sealing the gap between tooth and filling and adding their strength to the tooth. This allows for the more varied uses of resin beyond just regular fillings – like placing thin layers over front teeth to change their color, shape
  • Endodontics

Endodontic therapy (root canal) is a treatment that we do here at our Dental Clinic in Birmingham, AL that will save diseased or injured teeth. The alternative to endodontics is extraction (tooth removal). Typically, a severely decayed tooth or a tooth with a large filling that may need Endodontics will begin to ache. The pain might be intermittent at first and over time progress to a constant dull throbbing pain or a severe ache that might be felt on all the teeth on the affected side. Sometimes there is no pain and an abscess might be discovered on a routine x-ray or oral exam.
  • Invisalign Orthodontics

Dr. Curry started doing Invisalign braces as soon as he finished dental school and has completed many cases at his Birmingham dental office. Invisalign, or “invisible braces,” is a series of clear plastic trays that you wear in order to straighten your teeth. They have become very popular. There are other competitors out there, but Invisalign is still the best method of invisible braces. Invisalign has several advantages over traditional metal braces. The main advantage is that you can take the trays out yourself anytime you want a break from wearing them. Having the ability to take out the trays to floss, brush your teeth, eat all the foods you love, and receive normal periodic dental cleanings is so nice compared to metal braces that are cemented onto your teeth.

Cosmetic dentistry

  • Crowns

Crowns on a tooth are needed for different reasons. Basically, a crown (or cap) is a full coverage restoration that covers the entire tooth, thus protecting and strengthening the original tooth. Dr. Curry will always first try to use standard filling methods if a tooth is chipped or broken. When a tooth is broken or chipped to the point that a traditional filling will not work, then a crown is the next step needed to fix the tooth.
  • Full & Partial Dentures

If you are missing most or all your natural teeth, and Dental Implants are not an option, full or partial dentures might be what you need. Full and partial dentures provide many benefits. They can restore your self-esteem, help regain your ability to chew food, and help your speaking ability. They also give much needed support back to your lips and cheeks giving you a more natural and younger appearance, while preventing wrinkles at the corners of your mouth. We are conveniently located on Cahaba River Road, in Vestavia Hills, right off Highway 280, and would love to consult you on what would be the best treatment for you. If you are missing some or all of your teeth. Call or stop by today, and let Dr.Curry explain your possible treatment options.
  • Porcelain Veneers

A veneer is a small, thin piece of porcelain that fits directly on the front surface of the tooth, forming an airtight bond around the tooth, and making the tooth the shape and color you desire. Here at Dr. Curry’s office we provide a free Veneer Consultation for anyone interested in this procedure. At this appointment Dr. Curry can give you an accurate idea of what type of restoration might be needed, and if you qualify for Lumineers or “prep-less veneers”. Lumineers are the least-invasive type of veneers, in that no preparation of the tooth is required. When doing Lumineers, an impression is made on the first appointment, as well as a shade selection done together with you and the Dentist. At the second appointment the Dentist bonds the Lumineers on to your teeth, no need for anesthetic injections.
  • Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening in Birmingham, ALTeeth Whitening has become very popular over the last few years, and the technology in making the bleach that whitens teeth as become more advanced as well. At Dr. Curry’s Dental Office, we use the latest in Bleaching Systems, which incorporates Fluoride and Potassium Nitrate (the active ingredient in sensitive relief toothpastes) into the bleach, which in turn leaves the patient with little to no sensitivity after bleaching.

Restorative dentistry

  • Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is a dental prosthesis that is used to replace a missing tooth. This is a popular method to replace teeth, in that the bridge is fixed and cemented in one’s mouth versus a partial denture that can come in and out. A bridge can replace one or more teeth that have been missing for a short period of time, or a long period of time.
  • Implant Dentistry

Dental Implants are a relatively new procedure and have changed what Dentists today can do now for patients with missing teeth. Instead of using bridges or partial dentures to replace missing teeth, a dental implant can be placed. The missing tooth will be replaced and back to its original look and feel, without the need to adjust or bother any of the adjacent teeth. An Implant is a really simple procedure, and is not as invasive as most people think. It is a titanium screw that is placed into the area of the missing teeth. After placement of the dental implant, it generally needs to be left alone for about four months for lower missing teeth and about six months for upper missing teeth. During this time, the bone around the dental implant becomes fused to the implant, so it almost acts as a root of a tooth. After the dental implant has become completely healed, next Dr. Curry can place the abutment and crown. Dr. Curry makes sure to place an abutment and crown that does not show that
  • Periodontal treatments

Deep cleaning is a cleaning done at Dr. Curry’s office that allows the Dentist to use anesthetic to “numb” up the particular teeth we will clean. This way the Hygienist can painlessly remove all the calculus and tartar that is present under the gums that is causing the bone loss and disease. Getting all the calculus off the roots of the teeth is imperative, so that the gums can heal and the inflammation of the gums will subside. After the Therapy or deep cleaning is completed, a maintenance schedule will be determined based on each patient’s particular gum health.

Dr. Curry and his team are THE BEST. I've been seeing him for years and have referred many family and friends along the way. Everyone in his office is professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. One of the best things about his office is you won't sit in his waiting room for an hour before being called back-your appointment time is your appointment time. In and out! Highly recommend!!

Services

Providing top notch services by our most experienced and skilled dentists, we classify our dental services in three major categories: preventive dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, restorative dentistry. Whatever procedure you plan on getting from us, you'll be handled by the best dentist Birmingham for the most comfortable and soothing experience

Preventive Dentistry

One of our most recommended and appreciated services include the preventive dental services. As the name suggests, preventive dentistry basically includes any service that lets you prevent the formation of any disease or long lasting concern in your teeth. This dental care includes carrying out dental exams, getting X-rays, scaling, root canal, etc. Any service you think that can help track a developing issue in your oral hygiene is included in our preventive dental services.

Our mission is to offer the best oral hygiene and dental care in Birmingham, AL. It's always better to save money from costly procedures by opting for simple dental exams and cleaning on a regular basis. The thing about preventive procedures is that they need to be done on a regular basis to remain effective. For example in case of professional dental cleaning, you need to get the procedure done at least twice a year to make sure there is no infestation in your teeth or no developing concern inside your mouth. In case you end up losing the habit, your teeth might be exposed to hygiene concerns quickly. But once you've developed the habit, you'll love the way your breath feels fresh and your teeth look so shiny.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry includes all dental procedures which help enhance your smile and increase the aesthetic appeal of your teeth. We believe your smile holds great significance in giving your personality a boost and upping your confidence. We can help you get those pearly whites you only thought were possible in toothpaste commercials.

From an overbite to discolored teeth, we can change the way your teeth look and feel completely. Be comfortable in your skin without worrying about the way your teeth or gums look. Treating and enhancing your teeth is a part of our routine and we love to show you how great it's going to feel once your smile is improved. We'll give you an exuberant gummy smile in no time.

Restorative Dentistry

This includes all those procedures which are used to restore your teeth back to the way they were before a dental issue occurred. A lot of people experience broken or damaged teeth after an accident or simply because they've been eating carelessly. The procedures included in this service include dental implants, crowns, bridges, onlays, inlays, and even fillings for your missing or broken teeth.

We truly believe in giving you the best smile that can boost your confidence unlike ever before. Restorative dental procedures take longer than preventive or cosmetic procedures. This is because they require teeth to be rebuilt and restored. In case you're getting bridges or crowns made, the construction and eventual settling on your teeth will take time. However, the result is outstanding and better than what you expect.
